| 1998 - Umar Uthman Sharif (Emery Humphrey Thompson) a traditional jazz trumpeter from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. His early childhood training in music came from his grandfather, the late Professor J.B. Humphrey and his cousin, the late Willie Humphrey. He played with the Jimmy Lunsford Band, then with New Orleans' own Dookey Chase Band. He also played with Luis Russell, Fletcher Henderson and Louis Jordan. |
