| 1888 - Oscar 'Chicken' Henry was born on this day. Traditional jazz trombonist and pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Chicken was an authentic 'Piano Professor' in Hattie Rogers' bordello in the Storyville district in 1906. He was a student of music at Straight University and in 1931 was burned in a accident and changed from piano to trombone. In the late thirties, he worked in the 'WPA Brass Band', the 'ERA Orchestra' and with 'Kid' Howard. In the late fifties he played with the 'Eureka Brass Band' and later at Preservation Hall. |
