1979 - Aaron Fletcher was born on this day. A saxophonist and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born into a musical family, and first took up the drums, then the saxophone all before he was 10. He attended New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A.) under the tutelage of such jazz educators as Kent Jordan, Donald Harrison, Jr., Klyde Kerr, Jr., Kelvin Harrison, Alvin and Harold Baptiste and Terence Blanchard. In 2002, Aaron decided to leave New Orleans, after finishing as a finalist in the Thelonius Monk International Saxophone Competition. Aaron's debut CD, Turn up the Heat, released in spring 2007. |
