1965 - Israel Gorman, traditional jazz clarinetist from Oakville, Louisiana died on this day. Gorman worked in Storyville before 1917 with Henry Peyton and Tom Brown's trio at Anderson's. He also played with the Camelia Orchestra and Brass Band during that time period. During the 1920's he played with Chris Kelly, Louis Dumaine, Buddy Petit, Lee Collins and Kid Rena. Later he performed with the Dumaine-Houston Orchestra and WPA Brass Band. During the 1950's he played the Little Woods resorts with his own band. Gorman died in New Orleans. |
