1891 - Ernest Rogers was born on this day. Traditional jazz drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his career with Edward Clem in 1910. Soon after, he joined the Crescent Orchestra, and the Silver Leaf Orchestra. He was a member of the Lyons Brass Band from the beginning of the band, and played with other brass band through the thirties and forties, including the Young Tuxedo. He recorded with Bunk Johnson and 'Big Eye' Louis Nelson in 1949. Ernest died in New Orleans on August 26, 1956. |
