1952 - Lester 'Monk' Smith, traditional jazz guitarist and clarinetist from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. He was born in 1898, and was a member of the Invincibles String Band until 1920. He was also a founder and leader of the New Orleans Owls. 'Monk' died in Bay St. Louis, MS.
