1978 - Louis Cottrell, Jr., jazz clarinetist and saxophonist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 67. Louis was from musical lineage as his father, Louis, Sr., born in 1875 was said to be one of the greatest New Orleans drummers. Louis, Jr. studied under Lorenzo Tio, Jr. and Barney Bigard, two of the great New Orleans jazz musicians. He played in the 'Young Tuxedo Orchestra and the Golden Rule Orchestra early in his musical career. He also worke with legends, Bebe Ridgley, Sidney Desvigne and Chris Kelly. He toured with the Don Albert Orchestra and played with A.J. Piron and Paul Barbarin. |
