1991 - Paul Gayten, R&B pianist, vocalist, bandleader & record company executive from Kentwood, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 71. He became well known by locals and musicians for hit records made, and live gigs performed with singer, Annie Laurie at the 'Brass Rail' in New Orleans and the French Quarter. Gayten produced Bobby Charles' "Later Alligator" and played piano on Chuck Berry’s "Carol". In 1956 he also had one of the biggest hits of his own career with "The Music Goes Round And Round", followed up by "Nervous Boogie". He later became a record executive for Chess. |
