| 1928 - Iry LeJeune was born on this day. He was one of the most popular Cajun musicians in 1940s into the early 1950s. He was an accordion player from Pointe Noire, Louisiana. LeJeune assembled a crack band, the Lacassine Playboys, which at one time or another featured Crawford Vincent or Robby Bertrand on drums, Alfred "Duckhead" Cormier on guitar, Wilson Granger on fiddle, R. C. Vanicor on steel guitar and even occasionally Shuler on guitar. LeJeune accumulated a phenomenal body of work, but died young when he was hit by a car in 1955 at the age of 26. |
