1971 - Harry Shields, traditional jazz clarinetist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. Harry was born in 1897 and was considered one of the great clarinetists from New Orleans. He was also a member of the musical family that included his brothers Larry, Pat and Eddie. He played with Norman Brownlee, Johnny Wiggs, Sharkey Bonano and Tom Brown. He was recorded extensively, and died in New Orleans. |
