| 1949 - Irving 'Faz' Fazola, traditional jazz clarinetist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 36. His legal name was Irving Prestopnik. Early in his career he played with Armand Hug, Julian Laine, Louis Prima and Candy Cadido. He later toured with Ben Pollack, Glenn Miller, Bob Crosby, Muggsy Spanier and Tiny Thornhill. His recording career is well documented and included dates with Sharkey Bonano, Billie Holliday, the Bobcats and under his own name. As Glenn Miller said, "There's only one 'Faz'". |
