| 1939 - Tommy Ladnier, traditional jazz cornetist and trumpeter frm Florenceville, Louisiana died on this day. Tommy was born in 1900, and the protégé of 'Bunk' Johnson. He played for 'Bunk' in several bands. He was also influenced by New Orleans legend Buddy Petit, and performed in Chicago with King Oliver, Jimmie Noone, Fletcher Henderson and Lovie Austin. Just before his death, he recorded with Sidney Bechet and Mezz Mezzrow. Tommy died in New York. |
