| 1971 - Lionel Cormier, a cajun accordianist and a native of Rayne, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 58. He joined the Elton Playboys, later renamed the Sundown Playboys in 1947, and cut his first record in 1952, "Sundown Playboy Special" and "Welcome Club Waltz." He also recorded "Big boy Bounce," "Louisiana Gumbo," "Cypress Inn Special," "Last Year’s Waltz," "Waltz of My Heart," "Black Bayou Special," and "Riceville Special." In 1990, he was inducted into the Lake Charles chapter of the Cajun French Music Association its Hall of Fame. |
