2001 - We lost a gem on this day, when Ernie K-Doe (Earnest Kador), Rhythm and Blues singer from the Lower Garden District of New Orleans passed away at the age of 65. K-Doe was born in 1936,and was known as 'Charity Hospital's Famous Baby'. His most famous hit 'Mother-In-Law' went to #1 on the pop charts in 1961. Other hits included 'Hello My Lover', 'T'aint It The Truth' and 'A Certain Girl'. K-Doe's known as an excellent performer and it's been said that in his heyday he'd give James Brown a run for his money. He performed mostly at his bar, Ernie K-Doe's Mother-In-Law Lounge on Claiborne Avenue until his death. He died at University Hospital in New Orleans. |
