1889 - Richard 'Richie' Brunies was born on this day. Traditional jazz cornetist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a member of the Brunies musical family that included brothers, Albert, Henry and George, Merritt and nephew Albert. He was the leader of one of Papa Laine's 'Reliance Brass Bands' and played with 'Fischer's Brass Band' around the turn of the century. Richard died in New Orleans in 1960.
