1964 - Albert Jiles, Jr., traditional jazz drummer from Thibodaux, Louisiana died on this day. He was the nephew of the great bass drummer, Clay Jiles. Albert got his start with Chris Kelly. In the 1920's, he gigged with Lawrence Toca and in the thirties with Kid Howard and Isaiah Morgan. The 1940's brought him to Papa Celestin and Kid Clayton, and recordings with Wooden Joe Nicholas. He died in New Orleans. |
