1992 - Dewey Balfa, legendary cajun musician from Grand Louis, Louisiana around the Mamou area passed away on this day at the age of 65. He and his brothers formed the 'Balfa Brothers', and learned the cajun music tradition from their father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who were all cajun fiddlers. They recorded a vast body of music that now influences younger cajun musicians to carry on the tradition. Their influences included included Harry Choates, Leo Soileau and Bob Wills. |
