1940 - Guy Kelly, traditional jazz trumpeter from Scotland, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was born in 1906, and began his musical career in Toots Johnson's band in Baton Rouge. Came to New Orleans in the late twenties, and worked the Humming Bird Lounge with John Handy. He then joined Papa Celestin and recorded. Just before the thirties, he went to Chicago and played with Dave Peyton, Jimmie Noone, Louis Armstrong and Boyd Atkins. Kelly died in Chicago. |
