1939 - Steve Gundhi was born on this day. A saxophonist and a native of New Iberia, Louisiana. He was a long-time resident of Sacramento California and probably best remembered for his association with Pharoah Sanders that stretched over decades. Besides Pharoah, Steve had played with LeGrand Rogers (who he had an over 40 year musical association), John Tchicai, Dexter Gordon, Wes Montgomery, Monk Montgomery, John Hicks, Calvin Keys, Jim Pepper, blues musician Charles Brown and many others. |
