1899 - Burke Stevenson was born on this day. Traditional jazz string bassist and tuba player from Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was astudent of Professor Jim Humphrey, and played trumpet in the 'Eclipse Brass Band'. He came to New Orleans around 1917, and played frequently with 'Little Dad' Vincent, Walter Decou and Kid Rena. He also worked with Kid Thomas for many years.
