| 1907 - Harrison Verrett was born on this day. Traditional jazz banjoist and guitarist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Harrison was a student of Dave Perkins, and he made his musical debut with Johnny Brown's band in 1924. In the late twenties he worked in dance bands, and in the thirties he led his own group at the Fern Café. During the forties and fifties he worked with Papa Celestin and Fats Domino. In his later years, he played in the Noone Johnson bazooka trio. He died on October 18, 1965 at the age of 58. |
