1962 - Shannon Powell was born on this day. Traditional and contemporary jazz drummer from the Treme' area of New Orleans. Powell was regarded as a child prodigy and was influenced by the late, James Black. He's worked with Leroy Jones, Charmaine Neville and Harry Connick, Jr. He's recorded three albums with Connick, Jr. and performed with him at the Grammy awards. Since then he's recorded with Kermit Ruffins and Johnny Adams. Powell also plays with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and The Treme' Jazz Orchestra.
