1998 - Alvin 'Red' Tyler, saxophonist and native of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 72. With Lee Allen they played saxophone on most R&B hits of the 50's and 60's. He was inducted into the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame, but he considered himself to be first and foremost a jazz player. Bebop was his first love, but rock & roll and the blues paid the bills better.
