| 1949 - George Baquet, traditional jazz clarinetist from New Orleans died on this day. He was a member of the Onward Brass Band and performed with many legends of New Orleans jazz. Among the names George performed with were Buddy Bolden, Manuel Perez, John Robichaux and Jelly Roll Morton. He was also a member of the Superior Orchestra and the Olympia Orchestra. His father, Theogene was a cornetist and his brother, Achille, was a clarinetist. He died in Philadelphia, PA. |
