| 1911 - Eddie Miller (Edward Raymond Müller) was born on this day. A tenor saxophonist & clarinetist and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He worked in Ben Pollack's orchestra and then with Bob Crosby. He stayed with Crosby until the band broke up in 1942. After that he worked with Pete Fountain, appeared in most of Crosby's reunions, and did club work. He also played with trumpeter Al Hirt. As a songwriter he's known for the song "Slow Mood," which became "Lazy Mood" after Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics for it. Miller was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1998. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 86. |
