1938 - Johnnie Allan was born on this day. Cajun guitarist and singer from Rayne, Louisiana. He began playing rhythm guitar in a band at 13 years of age, then change to steel guitar and joined Lawrence Walker. He recorded the Fats Domino influenced single 'Angel Of Love' around 1959, but it didn't do well enough, so Johnnie went back to school in 1967 and got his Master's Degree. He became a cult hero in the U.K., as a result of his cover of Chuck Berry's 'Promised Land'.
