1937 - Johnny Copeland was born on this day. Blues singer and guitarist from Hopewell, Louisiana. He was a boxer, as well as a guitarist, and led local bands who backed Sonny Boy Williamson, and Big Mama Thornton. He had many releases, and was considered the heir to the blues chair of T-Bone Walker and Freddie King. He did hit the Billboard charts with 'Slowdown!' with Albert Collins and Robert Cray. Johnny died in July 1997. |
