1905 - Percy Humphrey was born on this day. Traditional jazz trumpeter and drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was from a New Orleans musical family that included brothers, Earl and Willie, and father, Willie, and his grandfather was the legendary 'Professor Jim' Humphrey. Percy was a protégé of his grandfather and is best known as the leader of the 'Eureka Brass Band' from 1947. In later years he led his own bands, performed with George Lewis and played with 'Sweet Emma Barrett' at Preservation Hall. Percy passed away in 1995 at the age of 90.
