| 1962 - Johnny Stein, traditional jazz drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. He was born in 1891, John Phillip Hountha, and was the first leader of the 'Original Dixieland Jazz Band' before they made the historic recordings. He also organized the original New Orleans jazz band for Jimmy Durante, and played in Chicago and New York for most of his career. Johnny died in New Orleans. |
