1967 - Norman Brownlee, traditonal jazz pianist and string bassist from Algiers, Louisiana died on this day. He led his own orchestra during the 1920's that employed many of the local musicians. He recorded for the Okeh label in the mid-twenties. In the mid-thirties, he move to Pensacola, Florida, where he worked as an officer in the musicians union. He died in Florida. |
