1890 - Gustave 'Gussie' Mueller was born on this day. Traditional jazz clarinetist and saxophonist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was important in the early dixieland world. He played with Paul Whiteman and composed 'Wang Wang Blues'. As a young musician, he played with Papa Laine's primary Reliance Brass Band unit. He went to Chicago around 1915, and played with Tom Brown, then with Baron Long. 'Gussie' died in North Hollywood, California on December 16, 1965. |
