1962 - Abbey 'Chinee' Foster, traditional jazz drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. He was born in 1900 and was considered one of the all-time greatest New Orleans drummers. He began his career, like many others, in Storyville. He played for Bebe Ridgley's Tuxedo Orchestra. He played with Buddy Petit in the 'Eagle Band' for over 15 years and recorded with Papa Celestin during that time. He had reached new success at Preservation Hall at the time of his death in New Orleans.
