| 1900 - Robert 'Son Fewclothes' Lewis was born on this day. Traditional jazz bass drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of the great marching band bass drummers in the Crescent City. Began his marching career with the 'Tulane Brass Band', and in the twenties with Chris Kelly. In the 1930's, he was with Kid Rena. For the next 25 years he was the glue of the 'Eureka Brass Band' and was forced to retire in 1963 by a stroke. Lewis died in New Orleans on June 24, 1965. |
