1929 - Fred Anderson was born on this day. Jazz tenor saxophonist from Monroe, Louisiana. He moved to Illinois at the age of ten, took up the saxophone, and was influenced by Lester Young, Gene Ammons and Charlie Parker. He followed his own path and devloped a style of playing that has been described as 'Metallic Cocaine Bebop'. He recorded on his own and other's releases for over 30 years, and played with George Lewis, Bill Brimfield and Marilyn Crispell. |
