1977 - Armand Hug, traditional jazz pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was considered by most to be the finest soloist in New Orleans, and played his first professional gig at 15, at the Fern Café. He was self-taught, and created world-famous recordings. During his career he played with all of the dixieland stars, and had an enormous repertoire that transcended all musical styles. Hug was also a student of jazz history. He died in New Orleans. |
