1901 - Sidney Arodin was born on this day. Traditional jazz banjo player from New Orleans, Louisiana. During the 1920's, played in the Halfway House Orchestra and the New Orleans Rhythm Masters. He was the composer of 'Up A Lazy River', and was reputed to be the first white musician to record with blacks as part of the Jones-Collins Astoria Eight. Arodin also performed with Sharkey Bonano, Louis Prima and Wingy Manone. He died in New Orleans in February, 1948. |
