2007 - Frederick "Shep" Sheppard, a saxophonist and native of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 61. During his career, he worked with R&B legends who included Otis Redding and Ray Charles, performed with several brass bands in New Orleans, and played gigs with scores of local bandleaders, including Fats Domino, Dave Bartholomew, Irma Thomas, Eddie Bo, Bob French, Bo Dollis, Walter Payton, Gregg Stafford and Cyril Neville. He was well-known for his intricate solos and his skills on the bass, flute and soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. |
