1922 - Illinois Jacquet (Battiste Illinois Jacquet) was born on this day. Tenor saxophonist, born in Broussard, Louisiana. Jacquet was a sideman to Lionel Hampton, Cab Calloway and Count Basie in the 1940's. Later he toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic. He died in 2004.
