1902 - Earl Humphrey was born on this day. Traditional jazz trombonist and sting bassist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a student of his famous grandfather, Jim Humphrey and a member of a very musical family that included his father and two brothers. As a teenager, he worked the Lake Ponchartrain resorts. He spent most of his time on the road, but trips back to New orleans paired him with Buddy Petit, Chris Kelly and Louis Dumaine. He moved to Virginia, but returned to New Orleans in the 1971, where he died at the age of 68. |
