| 2012 - Bob French, a jazz drummer, radio show host and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 74. He is best know for leading The Tuxedo Jazz Band from 1977 thru 2011. The Tuxedo Jazz Band was formerly led by Oscar "Papa" Celestin and later by French's father, Albert "Papa" French from 1958 to 1977. In high school he started an R&B band that included members that would become New Orleans music royalty. The band included James Booker, Art Neville, Charles Neville, Kidd Jordan, and Alvin Batiste. Bob French & Friends played often on Frenchmen Street at the D.B.A. nightclub. |
