New Orleans New Era of Hip Hop Artists are Shining:  (Jason Gordon)

New Orleans has been producing great artists for years. From Cash Money to No Limit, New Orleans labels and artists have been pumping out sounds in all subgenres of hip-hop. In more recent years, New Orleans artists such as August Alsina, Big Freedia, and Curren$y have continued to keep the New Orleans music talent growing. Here are some of the latest crop of artists from New Orleans.

Young Greatness

Young Greatness, a native of the seventh ward, is a promising artist who has earned several awards including a NOLA hip-hop award for Mixtape of the year. His project, Dollar for Hate featured many great names including Pusha T, Meek Mill, and Juvenile among others. Although he burst into the limelight when he moved to Houston after Hurricane Katrina, his sound and style is unmistakably New Orleans.

Nesby Phips

Nesby Phips is famous for his lyrical talents and being a great nephew of the great Mahalia Jackson. Nesby Phips has been featured in many tracks with New Orleans greats such as Lil Wayne, Curren$y, and Fiend. In addition, he is a co-founder of the independent 0017th label collective. His full-length album Simply Phips has captured the attention of many with crafty, literate, and clever tracks.

Allie Baby

Allie Baby’s voice and style are as raw and real as her native city. Allie Baby is tough, sexy, and playful and full of lyrical talents that explode out of a deceptively small package. Her hit “Yay” oozes New Orleans swagger. She gained accolades for her appearance in the drama Keeper of the Flame.

3D Na’Tee

3D Na’Tee  is a promising artist who has turned down deals from major record labels and producers preferring to maintain her own brand. This has not come as a surprise to many people because 3D Na’Tee holds the upper hand with the right lyrical talents and skills to produce her own tracks. Since she started rapping at the age of 10, 3D Na’Tee has been playing solely on her own terms and has earned recognition and acclaim from top producers and artistes including Nas, Missy Elliott, and Chamillionaire. However, she signed a deal with Russell Simmons in 2014. Dee Day Better known as Lil Dee God’s Gift, Dee Day started his career performing in local radio stations and school playgrounds. Since then, he has worked with many big names in the music industry including Fiend, Kevin Gates, & Juicy J.
